iPhone 4 vs Evo

by Grunt on Jun.30, 2010, under Real Life, Tech

Actually, this is almost true for the HTC Desire too (except for the 4G) But it still is better than the iPhone 4.

Yoga hurts

by Grunt on May.04, 2010, under Real Life

Call me gay if you want, I ain’t wasting my time at a gym (and certainly ain’t wasting money either!)
I just tried out The Biggest Loser:  Weight Loss Yoga and holy fuck it hurts.
I shit you not!

My arms hurt, my stomach is in agony, my legs are shaking. I can barely keep my fingers still enough to type this.

Truly this style of yoga is a killer and I admittedly quite enjoyed it even though at this precise moment in time I think it was contrived as some form of nazi torture.

I need a shower now. I’m sweating like a pig!

Cooking: Dill Pancakes + Filling

by Grunt on Dec.03, 2009, under Cooking

New subject: Cooking!
That’s right, I cook…well, I’m learning to cook. Kinda a necessity for life…

So tonight I found a recipe for Dill Pancakes which suggested fillings.

Ingredients:
1 cup (200g) oat flour (or normal flour)
1 whole egg
1/2 (100ml) cup water
1 tablespoon olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
~1-2 tablespoons dill to taste

Prep:

Put flour, egg and water in bowl and whisk into pancake batter consitency.
Add Dill and drop of oil and whisk further.
Pour thinly onto preheated, greased frying pan (I used a 6″ base frying pan)
Flip pancake (no tricks now)
Repeat for rest of batter.

I got 3 pancakes out of this… I could have pushed it to 4 cause my first two were quite thick.

On the side, prepare what you want for filling.
I decided on:
Fresh prawns (big handful),
Sliced spring onions (2)
Diced pepper (1/2 bell pepper)

Next time I might try something with tuna mayo or other fishy product.

Krimbo Slice

by Grunt on Dec.02, 2009, under Funny, Work

As all the guys in the office love Kimbo Slice (See this FIGHT)

-and its Xmas time and we’re putting up Xmas decorations in the office including our Xmas tree. However, our sad little tree does not have an angel.

So someone suggested we put Kimbo Slice on top, which led to someone else suggesting make it xmassy, which led my TL to suggest I use my photoshop skills to make it so…

And I did!

Also made a whiter variation which, as there is alot more editing, looks worse.

Flume Games

by Grunt on Nov.01, 2009, under Work

Apparently on 30/10/2009, there were only 3 people using the flumes at the pool I do occasional hours at.
So, needless to say, the lifeguards up at the top of the flumes were very bored. More so than usual!
And we were too on 1/11/2009 – So we continued the genius work.

This is the result:

These were all created with cut flume tickets and stuck to the wall with water. Good times!

Lucky number 7

by Grunt on Oct.04, 2009, under Real Life

I hate packing

I left Aberdeen 2 years ago after a change in my life which, in all honesty, made me want to run away.
Within those two years I moved a total of 6 times from one flat to another.

Those two years were quite eventful. I made some great new friends and some enemies too. Relationships were built and broken, some more disastrous than others! But some which are stronger than the ancient pyramids which stand today.
I also managed to start development of my career in IT, alas the money was abysmal, but the experience has been invaluable. (Such as never ever work for capgemini.)

An exciting journey it has been, but my time to move on came and I hauled ass back to Aberdeen. For one, I love the place. For two, the IT market is better and I have the ability to learn more, earn more and become alot better at what I do. And for three, I can be happy in my life again.

Not that Inverness made me depressed… well actually it did! I made some mistakes (BIG fucking mistakes too…bitch) but nothing I’d ever change because I wouldn’t be here without them and I wouldn’t have learned from them and become a better person. [Even though in more debt than I should - c'est la vie] but I have the chance to bounce back from these and move on in a better direction.
Because now I have a plan. I’ve got alot to learn and many challenges ahead but I’m fully prepared to get my hands dirty because I know the outcome will be fantastic! Even in just 3-4 months.  :)

So many words!

by Grunt on Jul.29, 2009, under Books

This is getting ridiculous! For the first time in my life I’m reading two books on the go.pile_of_books
During the day I’m reading David Baddiel’s – “Whatever love means” and at night, tucked up in bed I’m reading Nick Harkaway’s – “Gone away world” [Review]

These are just fantastic books. In fact, all the books I’ve been reading lately have been great. I don’t want to even write this. I’d much prefer to be reading one of them just now.

All through my life I’ve been a very casual reader. I read books in school because I had to. Of the few books I read for myself, they were simple. Easily entertaining. I never bothered with the likes of Stephen King or J.R.R Tolkien. In fact the one time I attempted to read “The Hobbit” I lost interest somewhere around the troll turning to stone (I think that was in The Hobbit)
But now, I love books. I’ve got such a backlog of books to read because evidently people have noticed my new found passion for reading and are trying to give me heaps they think I’ll enjoy. For instance, my dad gave me a duplicate he had of Christopher Brookmyre’s “A Big Boy Did it And Ran Away” which gripped me.
Now he’s got another he found which is waiting for me next time I’m up visiting. (Great news for my Mum because she loves my Dad giving away his books. Considering the ceiling is cracking slightly under the weight of bookshelves in the loft. Heh)

It was since falling in love with Neil Gaiman’s books (Anansi Boys, Neverwhere and American Gods) and having decided to join the world of Twitter and started following Gaiman that I had a nice young gentleman have a look at my website and misread one of the post titles completely. Once I realised who he was I was honoured to find he was an author too and looked into his writing. This man is Nick Harkaway and its his book I’m reading right now.

[Nick, if you read this - your book is amazing; if a little jumpy. We really jumped back in time somewhere]

So. All I need now is someone to give me a few more hours in the day so that I can spend more time reading!

Books are cool!

Guide to male drunkeness

by Grunt on May.17, 2009, under Real Life

After a discussion last night with a mate from school who I met up with for a few drinkies, we came across the 4 step drunk guide.
This guide is based on toilet activities as its common ground for all blokes.

So,
Step 1 – Each time you goto the toilet, you pick out the same urinal cake and aim to make it dissolve.

Step 2 -You have to aim really well to hit the urinal cake. You also start to spit on it.

Step 3 – You can no longer balance correctly, but cannot use your hands as they are both having to hold your cock so you can piss on that damn urinal cake. You walk out of the toilet with a red mark on your head because you’ve been using it to prop yourself up against the wall.

Step 4 – You fell down stairs to get to the toilet. By the end, you’ve eroded the entire urinal cake.
