Tweeting hell!
by Grunt on Apr.16, 2009, under Real Life, Site, Virtual Life
I understand the “microblogging” idea. Basically, when your attention span drops to sub atomic levels as this day and age has come to cherish, and no-one can be bothered to write out an actual informative post on their blog. (or in my case complete drivel!)
I signed up yesterday having no idea wtf I was doing. When you begin, it does the friendly “enter your email address and passwords so I can steal all your contacts and spam the hell out of them” but at least gives a relatively obvious button to skip that step. Unfortunately, its probably not obvious enough for all the braindead web-kiddies destroying the net with their facebooks and myspaces.
The next step suggests people you might be interested in “following”. Which I don’t quite understand because I have no interest in following “Sockamillion – Jason Scott’s Cat”. Or for that matter, “10 Downing Street” (Yes #10 has a twitter profile…WTF?!)
It seems more like these profiles are most popular rather than picking people who you ACTUALLY might be interested in.
However, again, its a skippable step and you can get into searching for the people/organisations/etc you want. I found one or two people I know and also the twitter profiles of some celebs like Mr Stephen Fry, Kevin Smith and… Neil Gaiman!!
Its quite interesting following celebs as you get to see a more personal front of them rather than a media bastardisation of their persona.
Johnathan Woss tending to his sick wife, Neil looking after his son with a broken leg.
I’ve also added a “friend” called ‘playtwivia’ which a member of Neowin.net coded which pops up a trivia question every 3-4 hours and you earn points for answering correctly. Its quite smart, but the internet being what it is, every answer is googleable.
(I realised I have coined many new words on this blog post. Or at least words which aren’t technically true words. But hey, its my Blog!)
Twitter can also be used as a News Aggregator; a sort of RSS feed mixed into it. So I get the lastest news posts from Neowin.net and also the latest lolcats from icanhascheezburger.com
All in all, its maybe something I’ll keep up with alongside this blog. Sure i’m not going to ‘tweet’ things like, “I’m in work, its boring” or, “woke up, had breakfast, i’m tired” –At least not constantly. No-one is interested in that crap. I can develop it into something somewhat interesting such as my tweet:
Just made Haggis Neeps and Tatties for first time myself – all i can say is: http://tinyurl.com/arotcm
The tinyurl points to an excellent video on youtube. I suggest you play it with volume UP!

Movie – The Onion
by Grunt on Jun.09, 2008, under Funny, Movies
YEAR: 2008
GENRE: Comedy
RELEASE DATE: 3rd June 2008 (USA)
DIRECTOR: Tom Kuntz, Mike Maguire
iMDB URL: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0392878/
Plot: Satirical interpretations of world events and curious human behavior…
I downloaded rented(?) this film the other day. Thought, “hmmm might be good…”. Wasn’t fussed about watching it straight away. So Monday night, chilling, playing WoW and thought [I] might as well watch a film at same time (Dual monitors, right!
)
So I fire it up, and instantly presented with cheesey news broadcast music and various newspaper headlines spiraling onto the screen. All with humourous titles from, “World’s Largest Metaphor Hits Ice-Berg” referring to the Titanic (duh!), to a picture of a group of scientists with the title, “Female Orgasm Discovered”.
The film is based around a News programme. 90 Minutes of news reports generally taking the piss out of everything; Stereotypes, Media, Politics, Peoples hobbies and interests, and pushing political correctness to the limits without crippling the comedy.
My favourite sketch from the show, a guy goes to upgrade his PC for the “new” Bates 4000 to find out when he gets home, the Bates 5000 is just out. He returns the PC to hear on the radio the 6000 is out. Back to the store, buys 6000 when a delivery guy is taking away left over 6000′s cos the 7000′s are out. Cut to Gill Bates (CEO) office where he is talking on the phone about the Bates9000 PC and gets a visitor… a brilliant insite to how new pc’s are obsolete within days. Hehe!
Of course, if you’ve never heard of The Onion before now (Like me) have a look at this promo video:
An Internet full of joys…

And try as I have, I could not find another copy of this book in any charity shops/libraries (worth a shot)/Amazon or anywhere! This book does not exist in the world anymore AFAIK.
But I’ve found the next best thing. Thanks to XKCD, they have created,
Read, write and rate. But be sure not to click the [X] because that would be stupid to flag them as inappropriate.
The next thing I want to draw your attention to is… (continue reading…)

Been looking for ages to get a place in town so thats its easier to get to work and town for shopping, pubs etc. And now I have somewhere! AND INTARWEBNET! So glad to have it back. Its been so pish trying to surf the net on restricted access at work. And it was sloooow!
But now its fast and awesome and … aaaahh pr0n! hehe
Only bad thing, my mates girlfriend is a smoker, but I can cope with it I suppose. And its all electric, no gas heating.
[edit] and i’ve just found out this morning that the shower is pish too! [/edit]
The good things are:
- Its right next door to my eldest brother and his girlfriend and baby Grace. So I get to see her all the time and be the best Uncle ever!
- Its about 15 min walk from work and close enough staggering distance from pubs. Prob about £3-£4 taxi fair if pissing rain. lol.
- INTARWEBNET! Lmao
My weekend has been rather good though… (continue reading…)
